The news of a divorce suit of Seo Tai-Ji, 39, a legendary rocker of Korea in 1990s and Lee Ji-Ah, 33, a famous actress has shocked the nation. Nobody knows that they had married, even their close friends and managers. Furthermore, recently, Lee has dated with Jung Woo-Sung, a top actor and her co-star in the SBS drama "Athena: Goddess of War".
According to the recently disclosed story, Seo and Lee first met at Seo’s concert in Los Angeles in 1993. At that time, Lee was middle school student and they kept in touch for years. After retirement in 1996, Seo left for the U.S. and they secretly married without inviting anyone but Lee’s an older sister to the wedding in the U.S. in 1997. They divorced in 2006 or 2009. The timing of the separation is a quite controversial, since the limitation of the claim for alimony is up to three years after divorce. Lee demanded 5 billion won ($4.5 million) in alimony and 50 billion won ($45.4 million) in division of property in the lawsuit she filed.
Meanwhile, Jung Woo-Sung seems not to know about Lee’s marriage. Jung's management agency announced that he said "I knew nothing about Lee's marriage and divorce suit. I cannot believe it and I hope that it isn't true." In fact, he is regarded as the worst victim of the news.
Seo profoundly influenced the K-pop in the 1990s, and many refer him as “the President of culture”. He formed the dance group Seo Tai-ji & Boys with two other dancers in 1992. The group’s first title song “I know” was the first song combined melodic rap lyrics with dance music. The song became a major hit. The group dominated the K-pop until disbanded in 1996 during its heyday. After retirement, Seo left for the U.S. and his personal life barely known.
